GSI Group Receives Outstanding
Supplier Award from Samsung Electronics

WILMINGTON, MA, February, 2003 — GSI Group Inc. (Nasdaq: GSLI and TSX: GSI) was recently recognized by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. as one of their top 20 equipment suppliers. This recognition took the form of an award, presented to GSI Group President and CEO Charles Winston. The award was from Yoon Woo Lee, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics’ Device Solution Network.

GSI Group supplies Samsung with its leading technology M430 WaferRepair™ system, which is used by Samsung during the production of DRAM memory to dramatically improve yield, and GSI Group’ WaferMark® marking systems for the final labeling of the semiconductor components.
