GSI Group Receives Another
Supplier Award from Samsung Electronics

WILMINGTON, MA, January 2004 — For the second year in a row, GSI Group Inc. (Nasdaq: GSLI and TSX: GSI) has been recognized by Samsung Electronics as one of its top 20 equipment suppliers. This recognition took the form of an award, presented to GSI Group at Samsung’s supplier appreciation day on October 4, 2003 in Vallejo, CA. The award was from Yoonwoo Lee, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics’ Device Solution Network.

GSI Group supplies Samsung with its leading technology M430 WaferRepair™ system, used by Samsung to dramatically improve yield during the production of DRAM memory. In addition, Samsung utilizes other semiconductor and electronics manufacturing equipment from GSI Group, including WaferMark‚ marking systems and circuit trimming systems.
